Bettinger recognized with Philbrook Prize in engineering

Bettinger receives the 2018 Philbrook Prize in Engineering, given to the MSE faculty member who has “made substantial, sustained contributions to excellence in education, or the application of materials science to important problems.” Thanks to the MSE faculty for this recognition!

Team fabricates hydrogel-based neural probes

An interdisciplinary team lead by the Bettinger Group at CMU is advancing their work on hydrogel-based neural probes. These ultraflexible devices could have diverse applications in neural recording and stimulation. The key advantage to this class of materials is that they can interface with tissue without damaging the underlying sub-structures.
